Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 21) — Filipino workers who lost their jobs amid the pandemic may have options in industries thriving in these trying times, an officer of a leading recruitment platform said Friday.
'The BPO (business process outsourcing) sector is a very resilient group or sector in our country because even despite the pandemic, they continue to recruit and hire people,' JobStreet country manager Philip Gioca told CNN Philippines' The Exchange with Rico Hizon.

Gioca said BPOs offer in-demand online jobs that require employees to render work either onsite or from home.
Job seekers may also look into logistics and delivery services, with more people now resorting to online shopping, he added.
Another option could be online teaching, Gioca said, adding that former flight attendants may teach English as they may have a good command of the language.
In separate interview with CNN Philippines on September 9, Gioca said jobs have been constantly coming into the website and the top hirers in the country are:
- BPOs
- government
- human resources management or consulting
- education
- retail and merchandise
- computer and information technology (software)
- manufacturing/production
- healthcare and medical
- other industries
He added that on average around 30,000 jobs per day are available on the website, including listings for those who have finished vocational courses as well as those who are college undergraduates.
The unemployment numbers are bleak, however, with the Social Weather Stations recent survey revealing over 27 million Filipino adults without jobs as of June and two development groups projecting up to a million Filipino youth might go jobless this year due to the pandemic.

Gioca said the ₱165.5-billion Bayanihan to Recover as One bill, which was ratified by Senate, will help improve the unemployment in the country, noting it will 'stop the decline of the existing jobs.'
